Default 20MB Download Cap

Found this blog post on 148apps.

Looks like the download limit has went from 10Mb to 20Mb.

Just tested it out and its true o_O

Apple are so stealthy.

Was on TC also. Great news for me at least. Upcoming app is very content heavy.

Good News. My latest upgrade has gone from 8 to 17MB and I was a bit concerned.

I figured they'd have to do something like this for the iPad, but I'd be a lot happier if I had an official confirmation.

I'm really pleased by this, Alien Swing weighs in at just over 20Mb at the moment but I'm pretty confident that I can get it under the 20Mb cap with a little bit of work. Time for an update.

Shrink the file sizes.

It's for downloading over 3G or EDGE.

I see, makes sense.

Anyone know what happens with the apps that are over the 20MB?
Do they just not appear in the App Store when browsing via 3G or it just prevents you from downloading?

Read much? Follow the link in the OP; there's a picture (screenshot) that explains a lot.

With a Jailbreak, you'd probably be able to circumvent this.

Well looks like the 20Mb cap has benefited me already!
My app has reached the US Free Top 10 in Education.
I wouldnt have got there if i were relying on Wifi only.

Default 20MB not enough - says me. =)

Just sent this note to Apple:

Hello there! I am loving being a developer of apps for the iPad and iPhone, just wondering if there is any chance the download-over-3G limit will be increased anytime soon?

With the new retina displays to support - including both a regular.jpg and a regular@2x.jpg of each image is nearly doubling file sizes for our apps, and 20MB seems smaller and smaller every day. Hopefully an increase in the download limit is possible and upcoming. I realize this may be an issue to debate with AT&T or potentially Verizon.

If it's possible, it would be great. Otherwise... I suppose the poor souls using the network they are paying for monthly will continue receiving "Application Over 20MB" messages when attempting to give their money to an app they've found intriguing in the App Store.

With wifi hotspots available just about anywhere, does the cap really matter anymore?

Not a wise-*** remark...serious question.

Thanks.

From experience.
20MB cap is strongly influencing on user download behavior.

In case of iLambo (pictures-videos combo app) I think bigger size better appeals to users to make purchase.

I witnessed almost doubled downloads on apps reduced to 19MB compared to old bigger versions.
