I highly doubt that zickzackzuck makes $20k a day. He is for sure just a 12 year old pimpleface, trying to get a good laugh in his cellar. In another thread he even claimed to be the dev of Pocket God. Oh well... He is NOT Bolt Creative! And PG does currently not make 20k a day. PG peaked last year in March and April at around 18k sales a day, but then dropped down to 6000 sales a day in June.
So: He is just a liar!
Proof me wrong zackzack! You've opened your mouth too wide. Now you have to prove it.
hahahaha. I've been out of town for a few days and haven't come on the forum, but I should have know that a sm...ut pushing po...rn peddler like CHV would result to needless, reckless, and pathetic name calling and mud slinging in my absense. I know that you are very mad that I have called you out for being the hypocritical sm...ut pusher that you are in the other thread where you "crusaded" against the bo...oby apps only to be selling one of your own the whole time. However, there is no need to personally call me out as a "12 year old pimpleface, trying to get a good laugh in his cellar" which I am obviously not.
I guess that you have finally gotten down to the lowest common denominator of insulting name calling... much like a "12 year old pimpleface, trying to get a good laugh in his cellar" would do... so it appears to me sir that you are much more likely to be a "12 year old pimpleface, trying to get a good laugh in his cellar" than I am... LOL!
I am no longer going to engage in spirited debate with you, because it is clear to me that you are merely an angry troll looking to call out others for your own shortcomings and I am more interested in aiding the other fledgling devs on this forum learn the ins and outs of the real business world and what it will take for them to build and grow a real business in this world... not just working for a quick money grab on an assumed goldrush and then getting angry when it doesn't work out.
My final advice to you, sir, is to work on your forum etiquette and decorum... I feel like I was just in Congress working towards Health Care Reform and you yelled "Baby Killer" at me from the shaddows because the big baby couldnt have his way anymore and decided to take his ball and run home to cry to mommy.
After "Michelle" came back to the cleaned-up AppStore she sells 5 times better then before. Currently it's about 100 copies a day.
100? Man, I must be doing something wrong. I've never got 100 sales a day period. Much less average. Drag Tree makes since, it's niche. Booze Runner has a little more mass appeal, and the PAYING customers seem to enjoy it. I'm just not good at getting the word out.
My "you are a 12 year old pimpleface" message is from the 19th. You were online and posted this on the 21st... and now, on the 23rd you claim that you have been out of town and you were not able to look into the board? You're a liar!
You claim to have made $200k with iPhone apps, but you don't wanna tell us which one(s). Why don't you tell us, instead of spreading lies like the one where you've claimed to be the dev of Pocket God? If your app makes $200k a year, then you should be proud of it and tell us. Everybody would congratulate you for being successful in the AppStore and you would be respected in every which way. Lies and insults don't bring you forward. On the contrary. You just show off your real character.
So, what did you develop???
I highly doubt that you have developed anything for the iPhone.
I apologize! I will delay my next message addressed to you until you are present and online, so you are able to read them "in time". Please send me your schedule (please use iCal > Export and send me the file), so I can integrate your availability status into my calendar.
You can't insult me. You just show what kind of character you are.
Please post something useful or spare this discussion board with your nonsense.
hahaha. I'm sorry that I don't go through every thread that you post on every day and make sure to keep up with every personal attack (ZACKATTACK!) that you decide to lop my way. I understand that you are very angry at many things in your life for a multitude of reasons that I will never know or understand. And I know that carrying around this much rage and frustration over minor things like the fact that your fake girlfriend app can only get 100 sales a day will make it so that we never see eye to eye on this issue.
I have developed a multitude of apps both for my own personal distribution and as contracted products for corporate clients of my company. These very lucrative cashflow streams (high end apps for business users, corporate contracts for my team of devs, and very generous ad revenue from some of our more consumer entertainment directed free apps) have made it so that over the course of our time on the app store we have easily cleared the $200k barrier (which really isn't that much when you are actually running a company... a typical quality coder will cost at least $65k a year to employ before taxes, insurance, benefits, equipment, and I could go on and on). If we were only pulling in $200k (before the "apple tax" and the US govt tax) over a period of almost 2 years in coding for the platform... well we would already have long gone out of business.
This is the message that I (playfully at times) attempt to bring to the devs here... they need to realize that $10k, $50k, $200k, and even $1m is not really that much money in the real business world. Sure, you can scrape by a nice living making a couple thousand a month as a compliment to your normal career income... but thats about as far as its going to take you... selling 100 apps a day is never going to allow you to expand your business, hire new employees (both customer, business, and sales/marketing), or really expand in any way beyond being a guy who codes in his basement to make a little extra money every month to get a bigger tv or eat out more often.
I fully understand that you want me to reveal the true nature of my offerings and business connections so that you can go forward and spew your rage on them. Likely you want to go and buy multiple copies of my offerings and do a "reverse-astroturfing" of them by posting fake negative reviews as can be unfortunately very common in this market at this time. I will not give you that pleasure, and I will leave it at your discretion to believe what I say or simply to call me a liar as a last resort of a sad and desperate man... however, I will remind you that it was you who was crusading against useless po...rn themed apps and all the while was pushing one yourself. I am glad for you that you were able to beg apple to take it back and allow you to continue your "supple" 100 sales a day... but that does not change the nature of your hypocritical views...
clearly you are in the <10 category since this topic offends and angers you so much lol
btw I'm making $20k a day, all the way, oh yay, woo hey, boo yah bay-bay! Laughing all the way... to the Bay-nk!
Get over yourself M kay PP kay
I'm just saying...
Come on dude, mkppk was pretty spot on in his post, (this is a useless question.. a more useful question is what does position X on Y category make in an average day... everyone should know with almost 200k apps most devs make nothing)
And although I agree with you that personal attacks aren't necessary.... when you brag about your apps people will be curious I'm sure we'd all love to know what you've done.
The post is to get an idea of the common income we are seeing in our market. Specifically what the independent competitors are pulling in.
Eventually I'll create a thread that lists how much sales it takes to get into each categories top 25.
Sure it's an interesting topic and it's cool to see how fellow board members are doing... I'll correct myself.. the thread definitely isn't useless, but hopefully one already knows the distribution between successful and unsuccessful apps and developers before you get into the game. It's also helpful to keep in mind that although most developers aren't that successful, that's how it goes in most areas of life/business.. the cream usually rises to the top and if you're persistent and put out good things, hopefully good things will come to you.
That being said.. being really lucky is also very helpful in this business. I'll be a sport and answer the poll... I fall in the 200-500 category with my paid iPhone app sales. Having a lot of apps helps, but a good deal of my sales are from my only 'hit', one of the first fake calling apps. Many of my apps many little to no money, but you learn something from each one, and some have found a their niche markets. Time, patience, and a good rain of luck will pretty much the only winning combination I've found.
Does the AppStore web link URL change for software updates?
Hello,
I have been reading all the postings here and I have a technical question to ask:
Does the AppStore web link URL change for software updates?
eg
if you are an iPhone developer, and you already have version 1 of your app in the AppStore, when you look at your app in iTunes, you can get the "machine generated" web URL link to it, by right mouse clicking your app's image/icon in the top left corner.
My question relates to if you submit to Apple a software update of your iPhone application (eg version 2)
Does the machine generated iTunes web link from Apple change for version 2 of the app, or will it still be the same?
If you don't know, would you know where I could find out this information?

No, it's always the same web link (your ID doesn't change)

Isn't this thread supposed to be about indie devs, not companies?
I thought zackattack is a solo indie dev too. Big companies are no doubt making 100s of Ks of sales... no surprise there.
And coming in here showing off your numbers is meaningless, because its like you are comparing an Evo with a bicycle. . You got lots of manpower, resources, etc.

Exactly!
A million dollars are "nothing" for a big company like Mercedes (as an example). In such companies only the CEO and a very few others in privileged positions make good money. Everybody else gets just the average salary from which he/she can sustain his/her average lifestyle. Making $200k off an corporate app, made for the company, which is not in the AppStore (or is it?) does not say anything. The dev does not get the $200k. He just gets his salary.
A coder (programmer) earns just $65k/year? Really? I wouldn't take that job. This would mean that I have to cut down drastically on my lifestyle.
This thread is about how much money an INDEPENDENT, not employed by anybody, working for himself developer makes with apps in the AppStore.
Numbers like "we've made 5 Million bucks with GTA" are worthless. That's money for the company (Rockstar) to pay a huge team which developed the app. Each dev only get a salary and not the 5 Million. None of the devs is independent.

I think it all depends on where you live. Give someone living in Africa one US dollar and will be able to buy himself food for several days, give that same dollar to someone living in eg London and he won't be able to buy himself a lollypop. Earning $65K a year may not seem much to some of you but it would mean instant wealth to a lot of other developers living in other less prosperous parts of the world.

That's definitely a great point. It's all relative!
