Today, my app update got approved, moving the app from 1.1 to 1.11. I got the email about 2 hours ago. However, when I download the app anew, it still downloads 1.1. The new version shows up in the Updates section as 1.11, but when I upgrade to it, it still retains version 1.1.
I realize now I messed up the versioning guidelines (it really should be 1.1.1). But iTunes / App Store should still pick it up and deliver the right version, shouldn't it? Is there anything I can do at my end to fix this? Is this just the inevitable itunes-taking-forever-to-update, or have I messed up big time?
In iTunes Connect does it show the right version? If this is the case, have faith in the system. It needs to propagate through. So eventually, it should sync up. 2 hours is not that long. We've had cases where changes have taken more.

It shows the right version in iTunes Connect, as well as iTunes. It just doesn't download the latest version when it should. I know changes like app description and price adjustments can take a few hours, but my previous updates have been instantaneous. But it's possible that they changed something with the machines.
On my end, I have rarely seen it as instantaneous. As long as your iTunes Connect shows up properly, you should be okay. Eventually you will see in iTunes or on your iPhone's App Store the proper update.
Also, even if you sent Apple an e-mail now, which you could, by the time they get around to addressing it (remember they get flooded with e-mails), it will probably be resolved.

It took 7 hours between "ready for sale" email and proper version being served by AppStore to the users for the recent update of Download Meter for GPRS/WiFi (it's in sig). It's very inconvenient and confusing from the user's point of view - we've tried to update the app on one of the iphones to current version 5 hours after "ready for sale email", but got previous version! A lot of users suffered from the same, according to our web server logs.
That's interesting and might explain what I have been seeing, lately I will get notified of an app update, do the update, and then when I go back in the app store it again tells me to update that app. I thought rebooting my phone was what the fix was, but now I'm thinking it's just the fact that I don't get around to trying the update again until a few hours later.
Ya, it seems to be fine now, after a good 10-12 hours. This must be massively confusing to users who downloaded what they thought was a new version, but was still the old binary.

Even though we get jaded about things being screwed up in the app store, this is obviously an error. You should file a bug report.

That's another story. How do you file a bug with Apple? I've spent many hours trying to file a simple bug with the Radar system (at bugreport.apple.com), but it refuses to let me. I open a "New request" and fill out the form as best as I can. But it keeps saying "No matching components found." no matter what I enter. I've tried "iPhone", "iPhone SDK", "iPhoneSDK", "iPhone OS", "XCode", "Safari" .... basically anything normal I could think of. I've even reported the bugreport site through some email link, but all I got was an auto-generated reply saying nothing interesting.
Have you ever run into similar issues?

Nope, sorry. I use the category "other" for App Store problems, and they get responded to (eventually).
BTW, somebody has already reported it. Search for it on the Apple developer forums.
Hello there, well i am confused about App Store managing current version of my app. I ahve an app which is online on App Store Version = 1.0 and if i have an update to do, Version 1.1, and submit it, so apparently my status will be "Waiting For Review" and then "In Review Etc".
So what i want to know, what happens to my current version 1.0 , will it be removed from App Store?

Same happens to me. The new version updates after more than 24 hrs..
Maybe it's because of the recent update of iTunes store.

No, your current version will stay in the App Store, till the new version is approved, at which point the app available should be the new version.
