Dark Tidings - Updates may not appear on release date list anymore.
Hey All,
I have some dark news that hopefully is not entirely true. There is a lot of rumblings on the Apple dev boards that all this shenanigans currently going on with the app store is due to a change being implemented in the app store that (supposedly effective on apps released on/after Nov 4) that makes only newly released apps show up on the newly released list (and not updates). If this is true this is catastrophic for all but the biggest of big boys.
I hope this turns out to be false; but if it is true I hope that they will add another list to search (a most recently updated list); if they did that...then this change would actually be a good thing. If not...most of us are probably going to get hit hard, potentially into oblivion. Thoughts?
I hope this is true... It will stop some of the BULLSHIT where people are submitting apps daily (by claiming they fixed a bug) clogging up the approval process just so that they can get in the new releases.
For the brain dead: an UPDATE IS NOT A NEW RELEASE!
One of my updates went live yesterday and despite changing the date it did not show up. Although if you go into the application on iTunes it has yesterday's date.
I'm not too worried though. There were 3 pages of new applications released yesterday so there's no guarantee it would even have showed up.
I also hope it stops people releasing regular updates. It may help speed up the approval of actual updates.

I hope this is true and agree with apple on this. an update is to improve an app, not get noticed. This hopefully helps out on the long lines for approvals for people who truly have updates for their current customers.
My attitude is if you don't like it go program for android. I am doing both and i see it as money i did not have before so anything is better then nothing. What sucks is people who believe they are entitled to it. Which is a joke.
I agree with the idea that an update is to improve and not spam; but the problem is; us good guys who believe that are going to get buried by the spam devs. They are just going to release all their updates as new clone apps and clog the process even worse then before. If you don't believe me, take a look; it has already begun.
I firmly believe in updating with good content; but I also firmly believe in having food on my table. I hear a lot of people say "spend 2k on advertising", well I for one have actually gone the "outside adverting" route and only have gotten moderate ROI (I also work at marketing/advertising firm at my day job and therefore at least have some idea what I am doing). The truth, however you want to slice it is; that popping up on the release list with your feature filled update was still the best way to increase revenue.
Spending a month or two on a good update only to make a few hundred bucks from it because it is invisible to the only marketing channel that really works well is NOT sustainable.
Again, this might be a good idea, as is; if there were NO spam devs...but that's just naivety; as I stated, it has already begun. If apple adds another "recently updated" list then I am fine; then its the best of both worlds.
