looks to me that apps will be listed with it's real release date, but the change is not done yet or is messed up, since there are clearly some old apps showing on front (Nov 2008 apps ?) and others with future dates, weird..

anyone has actually an update went live and not go to the first pages ?

btw, my apps seem to be listed with it's effective release date..

I had two updates come out last week both of which failed to come to the front of new releases when I changed the date.

It will be nice when Apple tell us what the changes are exactly so we can plan better for the future.

I totaly agree with you on this - when things changes we should be the first to know about it, not the last by guessing, trial and error and eventually experience...
That is not a good way for a developer to run his/her business...

On Australian AppStore in Games section, there are two subsections have name written with Hieroglyphs (Looks like Apple making Australia part of Japan or China)

Released updates couple days ago, no changes in number of downloads, usually jumps 4-5 times.

Apple is using an updated version of ProDos on their Apple ][+ computers to run the servers.

Not sure if this was posted yet, but finally received an email back from iTunes connect (below). Looks like I'll be submitting my updates as new apps going forward (at least for major major updates).

I know there's a lot of talk about pissing off customers in doing so, however every major software company does this (including Apple... Snow Leopard), and to keep the existing customers happy - can't you push an update as well as new version?

*************************

The released date displayed on an application page is the date the latest version of that application went live on the App Store. This date will allow customers to be aware of the date this version was released.

On category pages on the App Store, when you choose to sort by Released Date, applications are sorted according to the date the first version of the app went live on the App Store. Sorting by the original app released date creates a list where customers can easily find the most recent additions to the App Store.

Both of these dates are automatically set and cannot be edited in iTunes Connect.

Based on this response from Apple, I guess indie are totally dead out. There is no way for you to get free promotion ever again. Other than the day the app was released. Take alot of PR work that it use to be. Game is changing.

Yup... Kind of sucks, but I will be:
1. Revamping all of my apps starting soon to be released as new...the first app I ever released is in need of a major face lift anyway so that's actually a bonus. I haven't wanted to start a new project and now it seems there is a definite reason to...

2. Releasing lite versions for all apps.

I think there's still a way to compete...it will just be more time consuming unfortunately.

Hopefully one of my apps will make it into a top 25 list at some point (I've had one in the top 100 for healthcare/fitness and it still didn't yield more downloads than the old released date feature).
