Default Icon, Default.png and Splash Screen

Hi guys, I'm only a few days away from submitting my first app and was wondering...

I have read about apps being rejected bcoz of this in the past,

Icon and Default.png aren't the same.
512x512 and Icon not the same.
512x512 and Default.png not the same.
Do apple hate Splash Screens? I have a one second screen.

Which of these are true, if any?
Plus am I just having a pre-release nervous breakdown?

Thank You

Picoman

The big and small icons should be the same, with a couple of exceptions: the small icon can be a PNG and it can have rounded corners. The big icon has to be a JPG (it can't be a PNG) and it has to have square corners.

Default.png is a splash screen. How could it be the same as the icon? It's a totally different shape and size. The MobilHIG says that Default.png should look like the first page of the app (to fool users into thinking the app has started before it actually has), but there is leeway in that.

Okay, cool, my Icon and 512x512 are the same and in the correct formats
.

My Default.png is a grayed out screenshot of my front page with an enlarged version of my Icon overlapping it and the word "Loading...".

Does that sound acceptable?

Also I am submitting my binary without Keywords due to just really not wanting to be rejected. If I get rejected bcoz of code then that's fine, but not for Keywords or anything that I have to guess and cross my fingers.

I really can't say. I'd just compare it to other apps and see if it looks in the same range as what other people do.

Are you sure they won't reject you for not having any keywords? I haven't heard that, but I know that they want all apps to have keywords now. I'd put some in.

Good luck with your app!

Not correct. My apps have large icon as a PNG format. No complaints ever from Apple or iTunes.

I guess this has changed. Good to know. It was always annoying to have that one JPG when everything else was PNGs.

I really, really, really want to have Keywords, I want to be searchable but... I dont want to get rejected, not with this App.

Can you guess why?

Yep, its a Halloween based App, WhooHoo!

I know theres probably going to 1000 Halloween Apps but ive went for it as i have made a last minute decision to convert my original idea to Halloween and then release original.

I am hoping that the 8-14 day approval rate is going to continue for a while.

P.S. There is an App called Halloween... guess i cant use that as a Keyword then....

Default approval times

For games it seems to be lower at the moment. I've heard 9 days from a friend.

My few cents

All my apps have had PNGs for the 512x512 icon, no problems so far.

My last 2 apps (one in the store, one in aproval) are Halloween themed (cheesy but couldn't resist the sales opportunity ) and I used halloween as a keyword with no problem. I think you needn't be paranoid about keywords, just make sure they're relevant and aren't anyones trademark.

WRT approval times, maybe I've been lucky so far but I've had 5 approvals so far(4 new apps, one update) all under 14 days, in fact the last app was approved in 9 days, so again don't get too paranoid, it's easy to read the forums and see the worst cases

Approval times are really all about how many people have submitted their apps. Within the last month or so, people were submitting updates for 3.1, so that might have slowed things down a bit.

Where should I place my Default.png? I placed it in resources but I didn't see any effect. Besides, the icon stopped showing.

Just add your Default.png file to your xcode project then rebuild the project..
It gonna be shown..

Does it matter if I use PNG 24 bit or 8 bit? I can't find it in the documentation and Photoshop wants to know when I save the 'artwork'

Apple specs specify 24-bit.
