I completely disagree actually. Look at how many developers have posted their success stories about becoming iPhone developers in their spare time and then that becoming their main job after success in the app store. Surely that can only be a good thing for Apple in general?

They should have no problem paying for higher fee. Actually, I bet they would love it because it will reduce the competition from the junk ones.
If you don't think your app will make at least $500, you shouldn't bother with the development.
That is true, definitely. And because my app has made more than $500, I would be just about breaking even now. But, I broke even after a week at $99, which means I'm far more in profit than I would be with $500 fee.
I suppose that the higher rate would mean less competition, but for my app, which is slightly niche, there arn't many other apps out there anyway so that fact wouldn't help me all that much.
I think the App Store needs some sort of hierarchy in order to prevent the sea of apps that have appeared, but I don't know what the solution is. Personally, I don't think raising the price is the true solution. Maybe some kind of tiered structure which would enable developers to start low and work up - but I've no idea how that would work in practice.
Anyway, let's wait and see what Apple have in store!

How about a free membership but $199 per app that is released. You could pay $99 and release as many free applications as you wish. That would certainly stop some copycats and auto-dialers. If you cannot tell already, I hate auto-dialers with a passion. (submitted an update the same day as a batch of auto-dialers were released. Pushed me straight to page 2 without ever seeing the front page)
I doubt $999 would have stopped people from making iFart apps. Wherever there's sugar, ants will crawl to it. On the other hand though, it would really decrease the number of apps in the app store.
I think this 20k apps in the app store thing is good for apple's advertisements. Gets people into iPhones. As for keeping them in, they gotta keep the quality up (or rather, move it up), but it seems to be an afterthought to them. We'll find out what they have in mind tomorrow.. maybe.

nothing yet, hope this nite, else i think we should wait around 18 to 23th this month just for financial report, and it will sure delay our payment transfer.
I don't get the huge jump in the time frame here. I mean, there's been a gradual (or fast, whatever) increase of developers over time, but this is a 2 week jump from the norm.
There couldn't have been some insane new number of developers and reports they have to generate as of just February.
Has anyone got a response from Apple about what's going on?
Well, this is my first month that I'll have any financials for (February that is), but I agree that I doubt there's a huge jump in numbers.
Surely the delay is just down to 3.0 coming out later today? It has to be, right?
They are still WELL within the "45 days after the end of the month" time frame, so presumably they're just exercising their right to delay things because 3.0 has taken a priority. That is my guess anyway.

That's certainly possible. I would hope that a company as large as Apple would have dedicated teams for these separate tasks and would not create bottlenecks for each other. But the 3.0 thing is the only thing that is different this month than the previous ones so its as good of a theory as any
Yeh I assume that the legal / accounting team would be separate to the release team, but I'd also assume that the legal & accounting teams would be heavily involved with a new release as well. I wouldn't expect Apple to have a team dedicated solely to sorting out financial reports and not do any other duties.
Aaaanyway, fingers crossed for either reports today, or an amazing event later on! Or both!

Last month the financials were ready on the 10th. I was hoping that with FEB having less than 30 or 31 days to receive them on the 7th or 8th...
3.0 isn't going to be released today so why would this affect anything.. especially with financial reports? Unless they are changing the commission structure.. which I'd say no to because everyone would have to resubmit all their paperwork.
Hope it is at least by friday.. I don't want to wait the whole 45 days

One would hope so. One would also think that, making over $1,000,000/day with it, they would have managed the App Store a little better up until now. And been more logical as to what apps get rejected or put through. And not have such a bogus, negative-biased app rating system. And.......
iTunes 8.1 also rolled out late last week, maybe that + the 3.0 announcement today could be causing the issue?

I think I read MS are doing something like this with their windows mobile dev program. You pay a sign up fee and pay $99 for every app you want on their store.
Just had an email from Apple saying that the February reports will be delayed due to "system enhancements". They say that they'll be within contractual time frames, but that's 45 days and I really hope they'll be sooner!

Good to hear they've acknowledged it. Thanks for letting us know.
45 days would be the 14th April I think?
This will be my first month getting a payment. Do the payments come in the with reports or do the reports come and then the payment a few days later?
