Instructions for Beta Testing first app

Everyone,
I've searched the forums and I can't seem to find any instructions for ad hoc distribution and testing of an app. This is my first shot so I'm not exactly sure what to do. Here's my best guess:

1) Get the device IDs of the devices I want to test on
2) Download a new app ID? (Not sure if I need to do this. I already have an app ID, but do I need a new one when I get new device IDs I want to put the app on?
3) Download a new provisioning profile? ( I think this step depends on whether or not I need to do step 2)
4) Create an ad hoc testing build and send to testers.

Does that sound right? Do I also need a new certificate? Do I need to do steps 2 and 3? Anything I'm missing? Thanks.

Log into the dev portal at iPhone Dev Center

Add the devices.
Create your adhoc distribution provisioning profile.
Add the device to the adhoc provisioning profile.
Download the adhoc provisioning file and install in Xcode.
Create an Adhoc configuration in Xcode.
Build your app for Adhoc distribution.

No new app ids required.

This is all documented in greater detail on the dev portal. Just read the docs.
