Is there a way to make a backup of your iTunes backup so you can hold on to a clean copy of your data that was last used with OS 2.x?

I'm really eager to update to 3.0 too, but my development phone is also my main cell phone, and I don't want any problems there or the possibility of not being able to go back to 2.x if I need to.
Yeah I sorta had this hunch too, but I thought the same thing about 1.x->2.0 as well and that worked.
