The rice trick might be OK for fresh water, but I'm afraid salt water will leave a salt etc. residue as it evaporates. I turned the unit into my roommate who works for NASA, and he treated it with some solvents. It's still sitting there untested, I guess at least partially because I've recently had a heart attack and have been undergoing treatment, so I'm just now getting back into things.
