PROBLEM SOLVED
The problem turned out to be something totally weird. I relaxed the Project optimization setting and it worked. Then, I put the optimization setting back to what it was originally and it worked!! I cannot explain this.NOTHING else was changed. Maybe Xcode has a quirk.
