I will say there probably is more going on than the surface level stuff we are talking about in this thread. Sure, it's easy to think that Apple is all about some "morals" ~ and while to some degree I'm sure they have an image they want to maintain. But first and foremost they want to make money. Don't kid yourself if you think otherwise. So the question becomes this ~ 1) How much does the t&a apps bring in and 2) how much does it lose?
Yes, I actually think those apps cost apple profits. Just knowing that my wife gets annoyed when looking at new apps and she sees several apps in a row of that stuff (I think the last go around was sliding puzzles) she finds it offensive. She quits looking quickly which means lost sales.
We have no idea what the stats are behind the wall, but I'm guessing apple wasn't raking in enough money from the sale of these apps to either offset any lost image of itself or maybe lost sales from people like my wife. So maybe it wasn't a big decision to drop it.
What I think they should do is create an adult only section, that way it keeps the material out of other areas where it just doesn't make sense, and by default maybe doesn't appear in the recent released list, etc, unless you turn it on to show those apps.
Simple solution, but again, unless they are making enough money why even bother with that? Especially since you can google any image you want to look for ...
