Crackers usually use a program called XCrack, PoedCrack, C4Crack,Crackulous, or something else, to crack the apps. They then upload the cracked version to a File Sharing site, post the link on Appulous, and then download them.
Sure, you could upload any app through Appulous, even a beta version.
