Smile Noob to Apple programming

Hi

I'm currently studying for my Bachelor Degree in Business Information Systems and I've completed a Diploma in IT.

I'm interested in learning to develop apps for the iPhone. How does this compare to developing apps for the Mac Desktop? So far I've learned to program in ANSI C, Java J2SE, VB6, VB.NET, Turbo Pascal for DOS.

The most recent one being VB.NET, that was last semester. The most "furthest back one" was Turbo Pascal for DOS so I'm very rusty with that.

I have Snow Leopard on my Mac as well as an iPhone 3G.

I guess I just don't know where to start. I got ideas of learning iPhone programming while I'm my break from study but I don't know how that compares to programming for the Mac desktop. If somebody could give me a comparison both in terms of programming and job prospects I'd be interested.

Thanks
