I think Sinecure Industries makes an excellent point. Twitter is an excellent resource, but like any other marketing tool, you have to work extremely hard to make it work.
Twitter is used by most iPhone application websites. So when you get some publicity on those websites, your app will show up in their tweets, which get picked up by many other people. This allows interested people to find your app on iTunes, which will lead them to your website, which should lead them to your twitter account.
In other words, one twitter account doesn't provide much. However, it can be a valuable resource if you have an overall marketing strategy.
