stiiv- Yes! You make excellent points!

In response to your post, you must learn to say no to people who want you to work for less then you feel you deserve. You have to find and see the value in yourself to get paid what you deserve.
If you do that, then pretty soon the only people that contact you are those who see your worth, and are willing to pay the rate you are valued at. Once that happens most work that comes to you is then all referral based. We all know the best kind of advertising, right - Word of mouth (or referral). That is what you want.
Saying "No!" in business is the first thing that any business student needs to learn, and it needs to be reiterated a million times.
Be willing to get up in the middle of a meeting and walk out if you don't like what you hear. I've done it several times - guess what they came back and offered more money. I've still said no to projects because I found the clients rude, and I won't work with people that treat me the way that they did. Neither should you.
Ok, last I have to say about this topic:
As a freelancer you should always do your best and always treat each project as the best project you will ever have - try to meet and exceed your own expectations as they are usually higher than the client's own expectations.
Hope all of this helps!
Cheers-

Which boils down to the problem that I guess I code as much/good as you and get 1/3 of the money. So if you say no to people all the time, how do you find them?
